bubbleofthoughts asked: Hi, my name is Laury and i would really like some advice from you. You're a perfect person for me to speak to because you're a student right now. I am currently attending a community college but i am not sure of what i want to do. I'm really looking into going to culinary school and becoming a pastry chef. I would just like to know more of what it's like to be in culinary school and what your plan is afterwards. If you could please answer my questions soon i'd appreciate it. :]

Honestly, my advice would be if you really want to do it, go for it.
I WAS going to comminuty college, but it really sucked, I could never get the classes I wanted, because they always filled up so fast, so I just dropped out.
Don’t do that XD
Finish you General ed. At community college, then totally go ahead and go to culinary school.
Its really not that hard.
The work is really easy, and as long as you take notes and understand basic culinary/pastry knowledge, its really not all that hard to understand.
Make sure you do your work, hw, notes, so and so forth.
Don’t lawly gag on getting a job while you’re in school.
They’ll talk to you about Staging (pronounced stauging) Where you basically ask a restaurant if you can work for them for free, for experience, and then if they like you enough, they will hire you with pay.

Don’t be afraid to make friends. Espacially in a school like this.
Make sure they are good friends that will have your back when you need help.
ALWAYS
ALWAYS
ALWAYS listen to the chef.
NO matter WHAT.
The Chef is right.
All chefs have their own opinion on things, so if one chef says one thing, and you do it that way, but you’re in another chefs class, and they tell you to do it a different way, don’t argue with them.
Just do as they say.
Its good to learn all sorts of different ways for certain things.
So, yeah.
i totally encourage you to enroll if you are that intersted.
Do you know which school you plan on going to?

Good news!

I’ll be starting baking classes up again in about a week and a half!
Right now, I’m finishing up my LAST academic class!
*does a happy dance*
And then I get to bake to my hearts content for 6 weeks for my plated desserts class!
Then after that, I get to take a cake assembly class, which then I’ll be making big, awesome cakes 8D
And then after that, I get to work in the production kitchen at my school. The production kitchen makes all the desserts that my school puts out on display for regular people to buy.
And then after THAT, I go on my externship for 12 WEEKS!
@A@
I’m really excited, and yet nervous at the same time!
After that, I graduate, and I’ll be a certified Pastry chef~
